FYC/SWORD Winter Retreat
Blind spot
Do you have a blind spot in your life? An area in your life brought upon from so much distraction by other areas in your life, you don't even notice God's calling to a higher relationship with Him?
Surrounded by a beautiful environment, complete with a lake and horses, the campgrounds in Midlothian, TX were the perfect spot for this camp.
The food prepared was a lot better than expected by many, and the facilities were far above parr.
More importantly than all this, God answered many prayers and He shown mightily in this retreat and its speakers. SWORD

speakers included Brother John Njogu (San Antonio, TX) and Brother Allen Grey (Grand Prairie, TX).

Jason and Rose Dance
The worship was led by the worship team from Heart of Worship COG7 (San Antonio, TX). A concert was given by the Essence Band from the Casa de Mesias COG7 (Corpus Christi, TX).
The main speaker for the event was brother Jason Overman, Pastor of the COG7 in Jasper, AR. He gave a spirit-filled sermon

that included his testimony, and many young adults and youth wept and cried out to the Lord; many descended the aisles to the front to kneel and worship the Lord humbly and whole heartedly.
Although most were predominantly youth attendees, many SWORD-age young adults (about 60) attended the workshops and activities for SWORD. For those of you who missed out, don't worry! Our annual SWORD retreat is coming soon! (May 17-20, '07)

boardgame
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At last, a board game that reveals the insanity of perhaps the greatest hoax of our times -- the unscientific "theory of evolution."

"Intelligent Design vs Evolution" is unique in that the playing pieces are small rubber brains and each team plays for "brain" cards. Each player uses his or her brains to get more brains, and the team with the most brains wins. It has been designed to make people think . . . and that's exactly what it does.

"Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron are doing much more than revealing the bankruptcy of molecules-to-man evolution. They have a greater purpose: proclaiming biblical authority and reaching the lost with the precious gospel message. Enjoy this wonderful family game as you also become better equipped to defend our precious Christian faith." -- Ken Ham, President, Answers in Genesis.

update

Dear Friends, Family, and Brothers in our Lord Jesus,

I tried to keep this update on my financial situation short, but it just didn’t happen.  So, please read through the entire update because there are some powerful testimonies of what God has done here in my life and the life of one of the other students named Patti.
Last Friday the director here at the school bought the plane tickets for all the students and staff that had the money to pay for the trip to China.  They asked me if I thought I would be able to go.  I told them that I did not know because I only had $250 out of the $2000 I needed for the trip. There was one anonymous kind soul from my church back home in Marion, Oregon that gave $100. And my friend Steve Vanderworf from Arizona had given me $150. But there was not a hint of money from anyone else.  So, I told them not to reserve or buy my ticket.  I was not sure if the money would come in or that if it was even God’s will for me to go.  The school had moved the cut off date to Jan. 15th which would be the last day possible to get the tickets and money for the trip.  So, I was kind of starting to feel like maybe God did not want me to go to China.
However, all this changed the next day on Saturday when I called my Brother-in-law and sister Dan and Rachel Lopez in Monterrey.  I was only calling them to say hello and see how they were doing, but there was a big surprise waiting on the other end of the line.  They told me that they had $1000 worth of tithe and other money saved up and

The other reason I am writing this email is to simply let you know I have more then enough money for the trip now.  So, if you still want to give more, I will use it help some of the poorest students here at the school to pay off their school tuition expenses unless you tell me otherwise.  After receiving another call yesterday from my Aunt Becky and Uncle Lee Larson in Oregon telling me that they and their family had some more money for me, I figured I better let everyone know right away that I have enough.  They gave $150.  God is so faithful!
Tomorrow I leave on the evangelical outreach period of schooling.  For the next 3 weeks I will be here in Mexico and after that we will be in China for 40 day’s.  During this time it will be very hard for me to communicate with anyone.  The best way to get a hold of me is email. The next best way is by calling the Portland phone number I have that will reach me any were in the world through the Internet.  Just leave me a voice message and I will be able to receive it the next time I get on the internet.  That number is (503) 564-4151.
Oh, and I talked with the director here about buying some Chinese bibles to try and get them into the country.  He said the idea was too dangerous.  So, I will not be able to do this.  However, I found several versions of the Chinese bible on the internet that I downloaded.  I am going to bring them with me and hopefully I can share those with some Chinese people during our trip.  Please keep us all in your prayers that God will use us in a powerful way during the next 2 months.

tried talking with her she would just “babble” on in Chinese trying to respond to them.  However, she could said she was thinking in Spanish, and could understand everyone else speaking to here in Spanish.  But when she opened her mouth Chinese would come out no matter how hard she tried to speak in Spanish.  Then she went home like this.  Then two days later the director got a call from her mom.  Her mom was calling to find out what happened to her daughter that Thursday night during the service, because Patti was still not able to speak in Spanish after two days!  All she was able to do was speak in Chinese and no one could understand her.  She said she explained to her mom what happened to her but her mom didn’t understand anything.  And told her I don’t understand you what are you trying to tell me.  So when her mom called she said, Patti was frustrated, and everyone else was getting worried and didn’t know what was going on.  So, the director Marciños sent a couple of the staff members over to her house.  The explained things to her mom better and prayed with them.  The Patti told me that she prayed that night and begged God to change her back to normal so she could talk with people again.  So that night she said she had a dream, and in the dream God told her that he will use us how he wants to and when he wants and we need to be obedient to his will.  So the next morning when she woke up she was back to normal.  Since then she has been back to normal for the most part.  She said that she has watched some movies in Chinese and said that sometimes she can understand some words

"I want to share with you how God provides in an amazing and sometimes miraculous ways"

wanted to use it to help out with my trip to China. However, they wanted to first call pastor Ramon Ruiz because they knew that the San Pedro church in Monterrey also needed it.  So, they called him right away and told him that they wanted to use it for my trip to China and he immediately said yes and did not even ask any questions.  Then he told them that he was planning to take up an offering that night for me too.  He also told them that his daughter Pricila (which I am friends with) was trying to help out too at the COG (7th day) national youth conference in Monterrey that was going on this last week.  She ended up raising about $150 dollars there.  The San Pedro church that night gave something like $50 during the offering for me.  My other friend Monica Aranda from Monterrey gave me another $50.  After talking with my sister in Monterrey I called my friends Jenny and James Oliva-Nyatangi in Chicago to tell them the good news.  Then they told me that them had also collected $300 from within there family some friends. They also said that they still have some more money coming that her sister and brother-in-law had told them they were going to give.  My mom and step-dad gave me $300 of their tithe that they regularly support me with when I talked with them.

The reason I am telling you all this is because I want to share with you how God provides in an amazing and sometimes miraculous ways.  I went from having only $250 for my trip on day to having $2100 the next day.  God is awesome!  And he deserves all the credit, because we are only faithful service doing his will.  But I do want to thank everyone that has given to support this work that God is doing through me.  I thank you all for your obedient heart before God.  And for having spiritual ears that hear God’s voice when he puts something on your heart to do.  I feel humbled to be the one that is on the receiving end, but very thankful too.

Poor little Mexican girl miraculously starts speaking perfect Chinese!  Believe it or not it is true.  The director of the school here first shared with me about Patti’s testimony after some anonymous mystery man visited the office here at the school and paid off all her tuition and all of the money she needed for her trip to China.  This guy gave the director over $30,000 pesos (about $3,000 US dollars) in cash and said it was specifically for Patti.  She does not know how he was and he did not tell the director who he was either, so it is all very mysterious.  So after this happened the director shared with me her testimony. Then I asked some of the others here about it and they all said basically the same thing and about how crazy it all was.  Then finally I talked with her personally to double check the facts.  So this is what happened.  Last year before she was a student she came to the Thursday night community outreach service that the school calls “Macedonian Night” which is in reference to Acts 16:9-10 where it says, “And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10And when Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.”

So, each week the students and staff of the school focus on a different country, and pray for it during the service.  It is a time to get the community involved in what is going on here, and give them a chance to help other countries through their prayers.  So, during the service while everyone was singing and others were praying she started to speech in a different language.  Then someone recognized that it was Mandarin Chinese.  For the rest of the night she couldn’t speak Spanish and when people

and phrases.  But that she is praying that God will do the same thing again while we are in China, but also so she can understand Chinese too. So, I am thinking it would be amazing to witness a poor little Mexican girl sharing the gospel in perfect Chinese.  I have a feeling it will happen during your trip to China in three weeks from now.  But God will do what he wants.

Just in case your wandering I have never heard anyone her student or staff speak in “tongues” or any other language.  “With God there is no such thing as impossible.  With out God there is no end to what is impossible.” That is a famous quote by me.  *chuckle*  So, God is truly working in powerful ways, and I expect him to do even more amazing things during the next 2 months.

I have come to the conclusion that God gives us spiritual gifts as tools for him to be able to do impossible things for his Glory and purpose.  For His glory not ours, to accomplish his purpose not ours.  God does not serve us we serve him.  And if we do not have a heart to serve him, why would he give us gifts or tools to just to have them rot and go to waste.  We all have gifts.  Some are bigger and more powerful then others, but they are all to be used for God’s purpose.  If we don’t use those tools God will take them away and give them to someone that will be faithful to use them the way they are designed to be used.  So, let’s be faithful with all God has given us, and listen for his instructions even if it is a little thing and he will continually start to give us more and more powerful tools and tasks as we become experienced enough to use them safely and do things properly to build up his kingdom.  But not to build it up the way we think is best, but in the way God tells us to build it.   He has the plans and blueprints we just do what we are told to do accomplish those plans.  And the end result will be something unimaginably beautiful great that you can say you had a small part in building.  I think that is why Jesus was a carpenter.

May God bless you all for all that your doing for his kingdom, and his glory.

Your brother in the Lord,
David Spooner-Larson
